Flicks on Fairbanks began as a humble, grass roots effort to showcase and promote local Florida film and video makers. It began when Constantin Traian Preda was approached by a friend of his who told him that the manager of a new, organic coffee house in Winter Park called Austin Coffee & Film wanted to host a monthly film and video showcase. After a few meetings with manager Laura Freundlich, she and Constantin decided to start showcasing movies on Monday, March 8, 2004.
Since then, a total of 14 monthly showcases have taken place on the first Monday of each month. The support has been overwhelming and every Flicks on Fairbanks has been packed with indie movie fans. The short movies have ranged from experimental to black and white film noir to hilarious comedies and the movies keep getting better.
In an attempt to excite and entertain audiences, Constantin's mission is to find the best possible short movies. He looks for films and videos that are ground breaking and unique. The last thing he wants to do is bore audiences with pretentious, long winded movies that lack rhythm and vision.
One of the best things about Flicks on Fairbanks is that audiences get to meet the filmmakers up close and personal - all while enjoying organic coffee, beer, wine, and food.
The setting is dimly lit, casual, and relaxed. It truly is coffee house cinema in Central Florida. While still focused on showcasing local Central Florida work, Flicks on Fairbanks is open to all movies from all over the world. Click back for submission guidelines. See you at the next Flicks on Fairbanks.
